Hike scheduled on Mangini Ranch

Save Mount Diablo has organized a hike on the Mangini Ranch in Concord, a popular location for outdoor activity.

Save Mount Diablo now owns Mangini Ranch and is responsible for the hikes. The organization would like to donate the property to the State of California, so that it can be made part of Mt. Diablo State Park, but the state does not have the resources to accept the additional property. For that reason, SMD continues to maintain the property and conduct tours through it.

The upcoming outing is somewhat different from previous tours, as it is designed to encourage participants to appreciate nature more deeply by contemplating it alone, surrounded by an oak forest. Participants should plan to bring a pen and journal. They should also dress in layers, wear hiking boots or other sturdy footwear, and bring a snack and plenty of water. If there is a heavy rain, the event will be canceled.

The event is limited to eight participants because of the pandemic. Everyone will be required to maintain a minimum distance of six feet and always wear a mask. Organizers will have hand sanitizer available. SMD’s protocols for COVID-19 will be available at the time of registration, as will location details. Organizers of events like this can use flyer printing to create maps and other instructions for participants.

The date is May 13, from 8:00 am until 10:00 am, at the Mangini Ranch.
