Health care event for seniors in Concord

A seminar has been scheduled for Concord to help seniors with a sensitive issue.

People 60 years of age or older, who are residents of Contra Costa County, have a chance to meet with attorneys from Contra Costa Senior Legal Services (CCSLS) about health care wishes late in life. The attorneys will be available to help seniors fill out an Advance Health Care Directive. CCSLS provides a number of pro bono services to the community, including self-help support, and simple wills. Business card printing companies can provide cards to participants in events like this, which are good opportunities for distributing them.

Everybody, but seniors in particular, should have completed an Advance Health Care Directive. Such a directive is legally recognized as the document that states a person's wishes in regard to their health care. This is particularity important in cases where a person cannot speak for themselves. While many people probably consider this to be an issue that affects seniors only, it would also apply to a younger person who had been in an accident, or anyone who becomes incapacitated and has no advocate.

The session will be held at the Concord Senior Center on Parkside Circle, from 9.15 am until 11.30 am. The date is August 13. People who would like to take advantage of this service should call for an appointment, at (925) 671-3320. The event is free, and so are the services of the attorneys.
