Crews begin work on Concord BART station

On April 17, crews started work on improvements to the BART station in Concord Plaza in Concord.

Plans call for adding better lighting and raising crosswalks, as well as building a new walkway between the station and Todos Santos Plaza.

Assemblyman Tim Grayson, who represents Concord in the state legislature, said the improvements will create a “red carpet” experience for riders, who will be able to get off BART downtown and make their way easily to Downtown Concord. The cost of the project is expected to be $6m, according to an article on ABC7news.com.

Ironically, the work started as BART was experiencing problems with its equipment, leading to delays. Problems with the track snarled the trains a few days before the groundbreaking, leading to some criticism of the project. However, Joel Keller, the director of BART, said they were not focusing on just one matter, and mentioned the fact that a recent measure passed in three counties in the Bay Area, providing funds to work on improvements throughout the district. BART is prioritizing the work. Keller also pointed out that the funds have already been allocated for the Concord project, and added that the organization also has plans and money to make track improvements.

Projects like this can benefit if officials work with brochure printers, who can create Booklets to distribute at the station to keep riders informed of the work on the project.
