Concord to tackle traffic problems

At the behest of locals, Concord officials have said they will institute measures to reduce the amount of nonresident traffic traveling from Clayton Road through areas of the city near Treat Boulevard.

The traffic restrictions will be in force during the customary weekday morning commute hours of 6:30 am to 9:00 am, Mondays through Fridays.

New Signs to be installed on Clayton Road will make it illegal to make westbound left turns, or eastbound right turns, during the morning commute at the intersections of Marclair Drive, Bel Air Drive, Cape Code Way, and La Vista Avenue.

At several intersections that have signals, the green that protects left turns will be shortened during the morning rush hour, and Signs will be installed to let drivers know the lights are shorter. Officials say the reason for shortening the length of the green light is to cut down on the number of drivers cutting through residential districts to get to work, but still allow people who do live in the neighborhood to access their homes. The intersections where the timing of the lights will be adjusted are Rosal Lane/Mendocino Drive, West Street, and Bureau Road.

The change will begin this Monday, March 6. Policies like this can benefit if officials work with a flyer printing company, which can create a mailer for area residents explaining changes and giving a timetable for their implementation.
