Concord students get chance to expand coding knowledge

The Office of Education in Contra Costa County (CCCOE) has announced that Code.org has selected the office as a Professional Learning Partner.

Through this partnership, the office will provide local education professionals with targeted development to build smart classrooms. It will also act as a regional hub for the movement towards global education in computer sciences. Mount Diablo Unified School District in Concord will be one of the schools to benefit from this new partnership.

The CCCOE participated in a White House event where partners convened with the Office of Science and Technology on September 26. The staff met with personnel from over 40 other partners around the county to discuss the best methods for preparing classrooms and computer science teachers for teaching in K-12 settings, as well as promoting high-quality comp-sci courses in K-12 schools. Many similar events use Brochures to help set the program of events and keep everyone on schedule.

CCCOE’s mission will involve expanding the current initiatives in computer science. Workshops have previously been facilitated in more than 100 middle and elementary school districts, but CCCOE will now be able to develop educator networks, provide additional workshops, and improve students’ overall access to computer science. For more information on which districts will benefit from the new partnership, speak to the school district, or visit CCCOE’s website.
