Concord spray pad open; new playground on the way

Concord's popular spray pad, located in Meadow Homes Park, opened for the season on Saturday, May 20, 2017. By the end of summer, visitors to the spray pad will also have a new playground to romp in.

The spray park is on Detroit Avenue, and is open weekdays during the school year from 3 pm until 6 pm. On weekends, the hours are noon until 6 pm. Once summer vacation starts, the spray park will be open daily from noon until 6 pm. The facility is slated to shut down for the year on September 24, 2017.

In addition, Concord will spend approximately $365,000 to build a playground at Meadow Homes Park. The area will comprise 4,900 square feet and include a swing set, as well as play structures that are suitable for both older and younger children.

Bad weather delayed work on the playground, but Concord's city engineer, Robert Ovadia, believes the project will be finished and the playground ready to open sometime early in July, 2017.

The work was scheduled after parents in the community argued that local parks were not as well maintained as those outside the area. They also noted that their parks' amenities and equipment were in poor shape, and they were concerned for their children's safety.

Projects like this can benefit if officials work with a postcard printing company that can create a card for local-area Mailing, announcing the improvements.
