Concord is replacing broken security cameras located in two parking garages in the city's downtown, and putting a pair of new cameras in Todos Santos Plaza.
The cameras are part of a video surveillance network that could include parks and additional public spaces throughout the city.
It cost the city about $101,000 to replace approximately twenty cameras that were operating in the Todos Santos and Salvio Street garages. The cameras, which are networked, can record in 360 degrees, and police can monitor them in real time via a computer app if necessary.
The Brenden Mann Foundation gave Concord $24,000, which the city used to buy five cameras. It plans to install three of them in the garages, and the other two in Todos Santos Plaza, where they will film the stage and the play structure. A weekly food truck gathering, a popular farmers' market, and a number of concerts all take place in Todos Santos Plaza, which is a popular gathering spot for members of the community.
In addition, Concord plans to post Signs in both English and Spanish to let people know cameras are present. Guy Swanger, the police chief, said the Signs would be posted because he is aware people want to know when they are being filmed.
Projects like this can benefit when poster printing companies are contacted, so they can provide needed signage.Get a Free Quote for Signs
