The city council in Walnut Creek is pondering whether or not to approve an application for rezoning, and other changes proposed that would allow for the construction of a condominium complex near the city's downtown. There would be 17 condos in the building.
Blue Mountain Enterprises, based in Vacaville, would like to join three properties together just to the east of Walnut Creek's downtown, at Carmel Drive's south end. If the three parcels are merged, the combination would form a site comprising 23,285 square feet. The size would mean the new site would have to be rezoned to “planned development” from “multi-family residential.” Other modifications would also be required. At present, there are several single-family homes on the cul-de-sac. Walnut Creek is an easy drive from Concord, whose residents might be interested in seeing the new development.
City staff members have recommended the council approve the request for rezoning, and authorize any other adjustments needed. The Design Review Commission and the Planning Commission have both already considered the project, and recommend that the city council approve it. However, even if the city council does vote in favor of Blue Mountain's proposal, the developer will have to obtain several more city approvals before it can begin construction. Major projects like this can be promoted through the use of brochure printing, which can feature illustrations showing the amenities of the new construction.
