Con Fire has new deputy chief

Not long ago, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (Con Fire), headquartered in Concord, appointed a new Fire Chief. Now, the organization has added another high-ranking officer, as Chief Aaron McAlister will move into the second-in-command spot of Deputy Chief from his Assistant Fire Chief slot.

McAlister joined Con Fire in 2016, taking on the position of assistant chief of support services. In that role, he undertook a number of tasks successfully, including:

• establishing the classifications of fire mechanic I and II;
• filling the position of apparatus manager for the fire district, which had long been vacant
• initiating and completing the project of constructing the new administration building
• finishing the solar energy project for the District
• designing Fire Station 86 in Bay Point
• designing Fire Station 9 in Pacheco
• starting construction of Fire Station 70, located in San Pablo
• managing the building of Fire Station 16, located in Lafayette
• developing and putting in place a program for replacing vehicles in the fleet
• managing many other projects with regard to facilities, apparatus, and equipment

McAlister says he is honored to have been chosen for the post, where he will be allowed to continue his work, keeping area residents safe. McAlister was graduated from Sacramento State University with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, and has an associate of science degree from Solano Community College, specializing in fire science.
