Cerus Corporation, headquartered in Concord, and the Blood Centers of America, which produce 54% of the aggregate volume of platelets, have recently announced an agreement to adopt the Intercept Blood System.
The Blood Centers of America has agreed that it will promote the Blood System to its blood centers, calling for plasma and platelets, so that it can secure adoption from these centers a minimum of half their total volume.
According to the president and chief executive officer of Cerus, William ‘Obi’ Greenman, this partnership with the Blood Centers of America (BCA) has enabled its members to easily adopt the Intercept process. The company is looking to work with the remaining members to help them adopt the Intercept system.
Individual member centers of the BCA which now use the system represent members across the country, including ones in the Mississippi Valley, Rhode Island, Oklahoma, and Indiana.
The president and Chief Executive Officer of the BCA, Bill Block, added that his organization and Cerus have been working closely together over the past few months. Cerus has streamlined the process for adopting Intercept which promotes a new standard in safety.
The two organizations might work together with a Print company to create materials with more information about the blood system so that additional member centers can adopt it.
