Bobbie and Tom Preston, who live in Moraga, a short distance from Concord, will once again hold Cycle Recycle this year. This is the 18th year they have been holding this drive.
This is an endeavor in which they collect bikes that can be repaired, refurbished, and given to charitable groups during the holiday season. The new groups to which they are donating bikes this year include No One Left Behind and Jewish Family and Community Services of the East Bay, both of which resettle Iraqi and Afghan refugees that worked for the United States in their native countries, and the Earn-A-Bike program run by Oakland International High School.
Inmates at the Marsh Creek Detention Center will also receive bikes, repair them, and give them to the Cambridge Community Center in Concord and other charitable programs in Contra Costa County that can repair them and then give them to children of low-income families who cannot afford new bikes.
The Prestons are accepting new and/or used bikes and tricycles throughout the month of November. The bikes need to be either working or can be easily fixed. They will also take donations of usable bike parts.
They may be turning to Direct Mail printing to Print Postcards and other materials to send to people in the community to request donations of bikes and related items.
