The study was conducted by RTI International on Facebook’s behalf, and it found that Facebook has invested more than $11bn in data centers through wages, operating expenses and capital expenditure. It has contributed upwards of $18bn to the United States’ GDP and helped create hundreds of thousands of jobs across the globe.
The report also shows that the Huntsville Data Center provided hundreds of construction jobs and is already employing 200 people to man the property. Constructing the data center resulted in $750m worth of investment in Alabama. Brochure printing can be used to illustrate what a facility will look like when operating at full capacity.
Katie Comer, Facebook’s community development manager said:
“We are proud to invest $750m into Huntsville but even prouder to see how our investments spur further economic benefits for the area, especially during this tough economic climate. Our data center investments go beyond economic growth.”
The data center’s construction started in 2018. Facebook already has eight data centers running in the United States and five more are in the process of being constructed. According to the study, every $1m of investment into the data center created 14 new jobs locally.
