Revitalizing changes coming to Cummings Research Park

Leadership at Cummings Research Park (CRP) recently went over plans for improvement with Tech Alabama with an eye to sprucing up the appearance and functionality of the park.

Among office parks, Huntsville’s CRP is the second largest in the country. Revitalization plan specifics will not be revealed until April, but the general areas that will be addressed have been outlined.

If all goes well, occupancy of the Cummings Research Park will expand and an influx of companies will be placing orders with business card printing services that include CRP’s address.

Part of the master plan involves a request for the City of Huntsville to loosen restrictions on the nature of business operations allowed in the park. At present, businesses within science and technology have had almost exclusive use of the park.

Relaxing strict regulations on building design, as well as allowing more tenants per building, would allow for more small Huntsville businesses to locate in the park and would open the door for more mixed-use developments.

Also to be included in the master plan will hopefully be a reduction in future building setbacks from the streets. Right now, the setback is set at a 150-foot minimum. Another idea is to increase the ration of parking spaces per square foot of office space, which is presently at a single space per 400 square feet.

Finally, an increase in special events is being considered to create a community atmosphere in the park.
