More employees sought for Huntsville company

One of Alabama’s largest employers is looking for more workers to fill positions in its new Huntsville facility.

Polaris Industries, which is trying to find additional employees to manufacture off-road vehicles at its new site near Interstate 565 and Greenbrier Road in Huntsville-annexed Limestone County. The company is working in conjunction with Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT) to fill positions in its 600,000-square-foot facility.

Workers are needed for welding, fabricating, chassis, and body painting, infection molding and vehicle assembly. Pre-employment screening is being handled by AIDT, which is also holding the company’s recruitment and training. Within a few years, Polaris expects to increase employment to 2,000.

Some examples of the skilled workers being sought include technicians (laser and bend) and welders, each of which will have a starting salary of $14.25 per hour. A starting salary of $20.40 per hour is available for robot and laser programmers. One to four years of the same or similar experience is required, although on-site pre-employment training is possible for welders.

Booklet printing may have already begun for the new employees, but before receiving one applicants must meet a number of criteria. Job candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S., have a high school diploma or the equivalent, be able to lift 40lb, and be at least 18 years old. Moreover, AIDT’s pre-employment training program must be completed prior to an applicant being considered for a manufacturing position.
