Madison County to host 2025 beekeeping event

The Madison County Beekeepers Association is preparing to host its 37th Annual Practical Beekeeping Course in Huntsville.

The course is designed for beginners eager to learn the essentials of handling honey bees, the comprehensive multi-day program will blend in-person and virtual learning sessions, making it accessible to a wide audience.

The course will begin with a full-day introductory session at the Huntsville Botanical Garden. There will be an online Zoom stream for individuals unable to attend in person. This opening workshop will cover the basics of beekeeping, including an introduction to honey bees, essential tools, and methods for acquiring bees.

Subsequent sessions will delve into advanced topics, such as managing a hive throughout the year, addressing pests and diseases, and the process of harvesting honey. This aspect of the course will occur online only and is scheduled for the evenings of January 14, 21, 28, and February 4, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Participants will receive temporary access to video recordings and a one-year membership in the Madison County Beekeepers Association.

Online access is $25, individual in-person attendance is $30 without lunch or $46 with lunch, and family packages start at $35, with additional fees for each member of the family attending.
