Huntsville to enjoy a taste of the season

The holiday season is quickly approaching, and the 31st Under the Christmas Tree Market is just around the corner.

This year the market will have more than a hundred specialty merchants, nine of which will be from out of state. This will be a chance to get all that holiday shopping finished early and in one location.

For those early bird shoppers, the morning of the first day of the event will be set aside for special discounts and refreshments. The $18 weekend passes must be purchased before the event. Children can have a pancake breakfast with Santa and make holiday crafts with Mr. Howse, the art instructor at Randolph Lower School. On the first day, he will show children how to make a seasonal mixed media collage. On the second day, everyone can make tree sculptures.

Children can also decorate their own gingerbread houses in one of three sessions, get their ‘Elf’ certifications, and participate in the Polar Express Experience. This popular area of the market will have the little one making holiday crafts, playing games such as Polar Bowling. They can pack Santa’s bag and enter a snow blowing contest. Each activity will require tickets. Since seating is limited in all the activities, it would be wise to make reservations and purchase the tickets early. Parents will want to remember their cameras and get those once-in-a-lifetime pictures to use on their Holiday Cards.

The fun will begin November 6 and go until November 8 at the South Hall of the Von Braun Center, 700 Monroe Street, Huntsville.
