Huntsville robotics club receives $5k donation

The robotics team at the Huntsville STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) club is the proud recipient of a $5,000 donation from Lockheed Martin.

Lockheed Martin is one of the nation’s largest defense contractors. It sources its employees from the next generation of technological geniuses and a donation such as this inspires more people to follow through on scientific education. Representatives from the company presented the check to the Browncoats at a Space and Missile Defense Symposium held at the Von Braun Center.

The Browncoats are dedicated to encouraging participation in STEM educational programs all over the community. They recently competed in 2018’s robotics world championships. Donations such as the one made by Lockheed Martin allow the club to source the materials needed to build robots and travel to attend the competitions. Corporate Gifts such as this go a long way in helping support local clubs.

Jim Rogers from Lockheed Martin stated:

“STEM is the backbone of our way ahead of the future of this country. It’s not just for Lockheed that we’re doing this. It’s really the country’s mission.”

This is not the first time that Lockheed Martin has made donations to educational programs. In 2017 it donated $5 million to Culverhouse College in order to fund cyber-security education and business-data intelligence. In that same year, Lockheed Martin also donated $15,000 in scholarship to Troy University for military servicemen and women.
