Huntsville ranked as best post-pandemic city to live in
Two cities from North Alabama have made it onto the list of best metropolitan areas to live in once the pandemic is over.
The list was curated by Business Insider. It ran a survey that showed which of the major cities in the United States would be the best to move to after COVID-19. Separate rankings were created for cities in the North and in the South.
Something Huntsville can draw attention to in its next round of brochure printing is that it has been ranked as the best city in the South, while nearby Decatur took 19th place. The criteria for making the rankings included looking at the share of jobs that can be done remotely in that area, the relative housing costs and the pre-pandemic employment rates.
When describing why Decatur was able to do so well, Business Insider wrote:
Huntsville was also ranked at number 13 on the nationwide list. It ranked high on the list primarily because 41.5% of the city’s jobs can be done from home, which is higher than the share in most metropolitan are

“Decatur’s cost of living is 16.5% less than the national average, ranking as the 14th-lowest cost of living among metro areas in the South. The population density of 120.1 people per square mile is lower than many of the other metro areas in this region.”
