Scouring the county to find out where the high-tech jobs were concentrated, 24/7 Wall Street, upon analysis of the data, came up with a list of the 15 best cities for high-tech jobs in the U.S.
It should come as no surprise that the Rocket City was high up on the list for ‘Best Places in U.S. for High-tech Jobs’. Coming in at No. 3, Huntsville was found to have nearly 16% of its employees in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) jobs.

To achieve the No. 1 spot, it took 24.8% of California-Lexington Park, Maryland’s workforce in STEM fields. Second place was filled by San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, California, with a total of 20.1% of workers in high-tech jobs.
The largest number of STEM jobs in Huntsville are filled with aerospace engineers. Tech jobs average $80,483 here. According to 24/7 Wall Street:
“There are nearly 4,000 aerospace engineers working in Huntsville, Alabama, more than any other major metro area in the United States. Huntsville has a rich history in aerospace engineering, as NASA’s Saturn V rockets were constructed there in 1960s.”
Data used in the rankings, including the highest percentage of STEM-intensive jobs compared to total jobs, was from an examination of the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment Statistics.
