Huntsville Botanical Garden all aflutter this summer

Families can see colorful butterflies being released into the Purdy Butterfly House this summer.

The program will start with a presentation to share information about the insects and their natural habitat. Following this, visitors can see and participate in safely replenishing the indoor butterfly population.

Every program lasts for 30 minutes. As colorful butterflies emerge and swarm into the verdant surroundings, visitors can take pictures to remember these colorful moments. Print shops in the area can expect an increase in business, as most visitors print these pictures as souvenirs.

Purdy Butterfly House is the largest open-air butterfly house in the US. This attraction is open from May to September and features 12 species of colorful butterflies. Along with these beautiful insects, visitors can expect to see turtles, buttonquail, pond sliders, sculptures, and a variety of flowers. Children can participate in making crafts and themed activities. The attraction has knowledgeable guides on hand to answer questions and help visitors navigate through Butterfly House.

Participants must pre-register to participate in this event. More information about the schedule and registration is available on the Huntsville Botanical garden website.

The butterfly releases will be on May 1, May 9, June 12, July 10 and August 14, although May 1 is already fully booked. Purdy Butterfly House is located in the Huntsville Botanical Garden at 4747 Bob Wallace Ave SW.
