The announcement was made by Boeing, which is the company that built the Space Launch System that is now NASA’s largest rocket. Boeing says that it joined the project to complete an intensive review of the avionics and to ensure that the first core stage is ready to continue testing once the Stennis Space Center reopens. The testing will be conducted in Mississippi, however the rocket is managed at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville. A Logo Design is sure to feature on the side of a rocket.
The company revealed that the final stage controller readiness review has been completed. This means that the stage controller can be used once the avionics software and hardware are analyzed.
Kevin Fogarty, Boeing’s SLS Avionics Director, described the way that the rocket’s systems work with each other a symphony by saying:
“The propulsion systems make up the orchestra, while the avionics is the conductor, the stage controller command-and-control system is the conductor’s baton, and the music is the roaring engines of a perfect hot-fire test.”
The first phase of the Green Run test will be a full cycle of the Avionics Power On procedure. If successful, it will evaluate how well the safety Checks, main propulsion system, and thrust vector control are operating. Phase 2 will include using propellant and firing the main engines for eight minutes.
