Double spotlight on women artists

The Huntsville Museum of Art is currently showing two exhibitions that highlight the artwork of American women.

‘Grandma Moses: Visions of America’ will be on display for the next few months, featuring 30 paintings borrowed from galleries like the National Museum of Women in the Arts and the Phoenix Art Museum. Anna Mary Robertson, known as ‘Grandma Moses’, produced 1,600 paintings in the folk or naïve genre. She was not discovered until later in life and lived to be 101.

The other exhibit, which is closing sooner, is ‘Looking at the Collection: American Impressionist Women’. In total, 50 works from the Louise and Alan Sellars Collection are on display, including paintings, drawings, and sculptures from the mid-19th to 20th Century. One of the artists featured is Greta Allen.

No doubt many in the Huntsville area will want to catch either or both of these exhibits. Local Print companies often provide products such as Flyers and Postcards to help advertise shows like these.

The Huntsville Museum of Art is open seven days a week until 5:00 pm, and until 8:00 pm on Thursday. Admission is $10 for adults, or $8 for students, seniors, teachers, and military personnel. Children between the ages of 6 and 11 can get in for $5. Call 256-535-4350 for more information.

The ‘Grandma Moses’ display is showing until March 1, while ‘Looking at the Collection: American Impressionist Women’ closes on January 11, 2015.
