Community fundraiser teaches children how to swim

A fundraiser is being held by Jack and Jill of America Inc. in Huntsville as a part of an initiative that hopes to raise money for free swimming lessons.

The JJSwims Community Fundraiser will be held on December 12 at the Huntsville Aquatics Center. All proceeds will go to local non-profits in the Greater Huntsville Area that focus on helping children without sufficient resources. The organizations that will receive funds from the fundraiser will include Sea Dragons Swim Team, Jack and Jill of America Foundation, Village of Promise, Boys and Girls Club of North Alabama, and Girls Inc.

The organizers hope to raise at least $75,000 at this year’s fundraiser. They plan to do this by soliciting for donations from businesses and individuals all over the country. Corporate Gifts would also be well received. If they reach their goal, they will be able to teach 750 children about water safety and how to swim well enough to keep themselves safe. Donations can be made online or mailed to PO Box 1681 Madison, AL 35758.

The JJSwims initiative was started two years ago. Children are in the highest risk bracket when it comes to drowning accidents, but by teaching how to swim at a young age, and making sure that children have the opportunity to learn, these numbers can be kept down.
