Needy Paws, a collaboration between The Ark and WAAY-TV, has helped the non-profit organization raise more than $38,000 in donations.
The Ark, Inc. is an Huntsville animal shelter that aims to save as many homeless animals as possible and provide them with veterinary care such as medical assistance and neutering so that they can be adopted by new families.
What sets this animal shelter apart is that it maintains a strict policy of not putting animals down unless it is absolutely necessary, such as a mercy killing or a dangerous temperament making it a threat to the local community. The shelter also runs an educational program that aims to put a stop to euthanasia in other animal shelters.
The Ark is able to provide its services thanks to community support through fundraisers, Corporate Gifts and donations. It receives no city or state funding and does not pay its employees. Volunteers help to keep the shelter running by answering phone calls and giving general care to the animals. Without successful fundraising campaigns such as the telethon with WAAY-TV, it would not be able to operate.
This is the 22nd year in a row that The Ark has teamed up with WAAY-TV for a fundraiser and this year’s haul is an improvement on the $33,000 in donations received during 2018’s Telethon.
