A Cuban Salsa Dance Class for Beginners is due to be held in Newport at the end of January.
This modern dance emerged in New York as a fusion of Afro-Cuban folk music and dances together with American Jazz. The evidence points to the Salsa sound having its origins in eastern Cuba and that it was already well developed on arrival. Its distinctive movements combine Afro-Cuban dances, cha-cha-cha, Son, Rumba, Mambo and the Danzón.
The entering of this Latin beat into the mainstream musical culture and the popularity of television's Strictly Come Dancing has stimulated enormous interest among the general public in learning to dance, and learning Salsa in particular.
The event is being organised by Havana People Salsa Wales and tickets start £7 for a one-hour dance class. Flyer printing is a good way of letting people know about events such as this.
The organisation highlights that there are considerable physical and mental benefits to be gained from dancing. Salsa can help with weight loss and improve posture and coordination. It is also an effective stress reliever, a positive mood enhancer as well as a practical confidence builder. Apart from this, it is simply a popular way of spending some free time, meeting new people and making friends.
The Cuban Salsa Dance Class for Beginners will take place between 7:30pm and 8:30pm on Tuesday 7th January at Blind Tiger in Newport.
