Newport hosts indie pop-punk

The indie-pop band Cheerbleederz, supported by Cherym, are due to play a gig in Newport this autumn.

An all-female band, Cheerbleederz could be described as a DIY supergroup, featuring members of the groups FRESH, Finish Flag and Happy Accidents as they blend and merge some distinctive sounds.

The fact that they were the only females in their other bands encouraged them to explore making music together as women. In this innovative project, the trio has been influenced notably by the likes of Snail Mail, The Breeders, Alvvays, Dream Wife, and Kississipi.

They deliver their own brand of melody-driven punk that touches both on women's experiences and the marginalised within society. They have yet to release a full-length album, but dropped an EP titled ‘Lobotany’ last year.

Cherym is a three-girl punk outfit from Derry in Northern Ireland, whose 2018 self-released EP ‘Mouthbreatherz’ achieved more than 20,000 streams. The following year they won the ‘Oh Yeah Contender’ award at the BBC Introducing-sponsored NI Music Prize. Cherym's most recent singles are ‘Weird Ones’ and ‘Abigail’.

Tickets cost £9.35 inclusive of a booking fee. Printing services can be a useful resource when it comes to planning a local musical or theatrical event like this.

This evening of girls who rock has a starting time of 7:30 pm on Wednesday, October 13 at Le Pub in Newport.
