Butcher becomes manager of Newport County

Fans of Newport County are welcoming a new manager to Rodney Parade, after the club announced recently that the ex-England star Terry Butcher had been appointed to the role.

The Exiles finished their League Two campaign in ninth place, having spent the final few months of it with Jimmy Dack as caretaker manager, and Butcher watched their final game against Oxford.

The former Ipswich, Rangers and England defender, who is aged 56, has been given a contract covering two years, and in his first interview for the official club website he stated:

ā€œI’m delighted to be given the opportunity to work for a fantastic club like Newport. I have met a lot of great people at the club already and have seen the passionate fans for myself at recent games.ā€

He went on to add that he was excited by the challenge ahead and by the chance to work with the club, as it is aiming high.

Those running the club know that they can always rely on printing companies in Newport to supply them with essential materials.

Butcher will be hoping to help Newport County make a serious push for the play-off places next season, after their promotion hopes for this year were derailed by the departure of previous manager Justin Edinburgh during February.

The new League Two season starts on 8th August.
