Proposals for the regeneration of a section of central Cardiff have been made. Construction could be underway by the summer. Brochure printing can be useful for destination marketing, particularly when somewhere has a new story to tell.
There are three main elements to the plan in question. A canal is likely to be reopened, while roads face modification and a fresh public space is probably going to be created. Caro Wild, a councillor with planning responsibilities, told Wales Online:
“Since the initial public engagement exercise took place in May last year, the council has taken on board all of the comments that we have received.”
Wild pointed out that the scheme under discussion is a detailed one. A further round of public consultation is envisaged. The cost of the regeneration would amount to about £13 million. However, resources from the city deal might cover £3 million of the funding.
The reopening of the canal is intended to limit the flooding risk in Cardiff. Climate change threatens to increase the frequency of heavy rain. The idea is that sustainable drainage methods in the vicinity of the waterway can help deal with large volumes of rainwater.
Biodiversity has been considered as part of the project. The plan involves the planting of wildflowers on bus stops, which may also encourage insect life in the city.
