Principality Stadium promotes economy of Cardiff

A report highlighted the positive influence of Principality Stadium on the Cardiff economy recently.

The Principality Stadium replaced Cardiff Arms Park approximately two decades ago. As the hub of rugby in Wales, the stadium has added about £2.75 billion to the local economy. A variety of cultural events have taken place in the Principality Stadium, including several concerts. Poster printing and promotional merchandise can be useful for event organisers.

The chief executive at the South Wales Chamber of Commerce, Heather Myers, responded to the report:

“The Principality Stadium has also been the catalyst for Cardiff holding a wide variety of events across the wide variety of venues in the city, giving year-round employment to thousands of people working in the hospitality sector.”

Econactive was behind the report and the work was commissioned by the Welsh Rugby Union, which owns the Principality Stadium.

Dr Calvin Jones conducted the research. The findings illustrated the importance of the location of the stadium. It appears that many visitors who attend the Principality Stadium are not based in Wales. As a result, a lot of income is generated from tourists.

With a capacity of nearly 74,000, the Principality Stadium is one of the biggest venues of its type in the UK. The report recommended that the offer could be enhanced by improving the transport infrastructure. It also suggested that a focus on heritage might be a productive way forward.
