New book set to reveal Cardiff After Dark

A new side to Cardiff is set to be revealed as a book showcasing photographs of the lesser-seen side of the city’s nightlife is published.

Cardiff After Dark is a new book that features a series of photographs taken by photographer Maciej Dakowicz. The photographs featured in the book showcase a side to Cardiff that may not have been on everyone’s radar in the past; including scenes of raucous parties in the streets of the city and revellers looking worse for wear in some cases.

Despite the photographs being considered controversial by some onlookers, Dakowicz insists his photographs are taken in good faith and that his intentions are to show the town in a positive – and very real – light. Dakowicz said:

“The atmosphere in Cardiff is really unusual. It’s very special. People say Cardiff is one of the best cities for a night out – and I completely agree. I always felt very safe being out there with my camera and I never got into trouble. I’m in London now and it’s nothing like that. Nightlife is very spread out, but in Cardiff it all happens on the same street – it’s great to be there.”

The book is being printed and published with full colour printing. Cardiff-based art exhibition space the Third Floor Gallery will also be showcasing the photographs as part of an exhibition celebrating the launch of the book. The exhibition is set to run from mid-October to December.
