Legal & General, a leading financial services firm, looks set to provide new employment in Cardiff for around 400 people.
The company already has two city centre sites where 1,300 people are employed, but as the closing of its offices in Surrey is anticipated, many of those working there could be relocated to Cardiff.
Over 1,000 of the employees at the Surrey centre are expected to ask to be redeployed, although with some perhaps being unwilling to make such a big move, Legal & General would seek to make up the staff shortfall by hiring local people.
This will take place in stages but it is intended that redeployment and recruitment will begin sometime during this year or the start of next, with the process set to be completed by 2017.
Although a Legal & General spokesman refused to provide details about the number of jobs that might be created in Cardiff, he did tell Wales Online that discussions had begun that could see the closure of the office in Surrey, adding:
“If that were to happen, then the vast majority of the roles in Kingswood will be transferred to our Hove and Cardiff offices.”
Successful firms based there have the option of using places that provide business card printing in Cardiff, to ensure they have the necessary corporate supplies.
The company’s Cardiff centres currently concentrate on retail investment and pensions.
