The indie-pop group Ynys (Welsh for Island) is presently on the road touring and is due to play the Tfwyl Festival in Cardiff in mid-June.
This five-piece outfit hails from Aberystwyth and was inspired by Dylan Hughes, previously of Race Horses. Their distinctive style seeks to harmonize melancholic sounds over a backing track of 80's sequencing and 70’s fuzz guitars.
Ynys has produced two LPs to date,' Ynys' 2022 and 'Dosbarth Nos' (Night Class) 2024, both out on the Libertino Record label. These consist of off-beat psychedelic catchy pop tunes and have created quite a stir, garnering many positive reviews, most notably a four-star 'Mojo Magazine' review.
The band has also been featured in 'Clash Magazine' and 'The Line of Best Fit'. Whilst, their festival appearances number Greenman, Other Voices, and FOCUS Wales, not to mention touring regularly right across the UK.
Ynys’ radical and innovative music craft has led to Amazing Radio and BBC Radio Wales, listing their songs as singles of the week, plus two live BBC 6 Music sessions on the 'Marc Riley show', indeed their latest album ‘Dosbarth Nos' made the shortlist for the 2024 Welsh Music Prize.
