Amid typical banner printing, chanting, singing and cheering at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium, both sets of fans in the 20,000 plus capacity crowd behaved well. With The Swans winning the battle of the cities 3 – 0, the match commander for the event, Phil Davies, was delighted with the attitude shown from all fans.
Representing the South Wales Police Force, Davies said:
"Swansea and Cardiff supporters have created a great atmosphere and enjoyed a trouble-free occasion at the Liberty Stadium.
"There were three arrests of individuals who clearly had too much to drink and they will now face the consequences of their actions.”
Of the three men arrested, all of which were from Rhondda, only one was detained after trouble in the football stadium itself.
Davies went on to say the experience was great for Wales and English football too, with the game being shown live across the world. He continued:
"I am pleased with the way we have worked in partnership with both clubs in preparation for this game and just like at the reverse fixture, a positive impression has been left with the millions of people who watched this game across the world."
The match was the 107th running of the derby.
