COVID-19 restrictions have forced the annual event to go online for 2020 rather than taking place at its usual Kongs Bar location, and a range of events will take place at the end of this month. Print shops can be useful for festival organisers, especially when changes to Plans are required. One of the animations is based on Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness.
Lauren Orme, the director of the festival, told the Animation World Network:
“We’re so excited to finally be able to bring our Cardiff Animation Festival 2020 events to adults, families, animators and animation fans online for the rest of this year.”
More than 100 showings have been scheduled, with adults’ and children’s tastes to be catered for. A competition is going to be held to celebrate excellence, which will lead to the presentation of sector-based awards.
Participants in the festival will come from various backgrounds, but there is going to be a special attempt to boost animated shorts that have been made in Wales. Chapter Moviemaker is involved in the delivery of the Welsh Work section.
Gareth Cavanagh will help animators with their creative efforts, and receiving professional feedback will be useful for those taking part in an online version of Animation Grill.
Taking place from October 24 to November 1, observers of the new festival experience may engage with the films via emojis and live chat.
