Jenny Evans discovered this appeal from the South Wales Echo and David Walker, the Lord Mayor of Cardiff, and decided that she would like to do something to support it.
She lost her own father, Julian, to the disease five years ago, and while he was undergoing treatment he found his garden to be a place where he could relax and reflect.
Inspired by this, Jenny has created an artwork titled ‘The Quiet Garden', based around the spot he used to spend time in. It was put together using a mix of fabric Books from old showrooms, clothes from charity shops and other upcycled materials.
Speaking to Wales Online, the student said the Velindre charity was located very close to her Cardiff lodgings, adding:
“When the university advertised that they were looking to fundraise because it supports so many people in Wales, I thought it was such an amazing charity to be involved with.”
Devon-born Jenny is currently completing her first year at Cardiff Met University, having developed her unique artistic style during a gap year trip to Australia. She is auctioning the piece and will also have prints for sale.
