The Dutch prog-rock band Focus, presented by Global Promotions, is paying a return visit to Cardiff as part of its 50th-anniversary tour.
Focus first appeared on the scene in the early 1970s, led by founder member and frontman, Thijs Van Leer. Their distinctive type of progressive music made them a popular Dutch export, perhaps most renowned for hits such as Sylvia and Hocus Pocus.
The band has produced a number of albums that received critical praise over the years, such as 1974’s Hamburger Concerto. A comeback at the beginning of the 2000s saw them release Focus 8 and 9 to warm receptions, and then in 2019 came the much-anticipated Focus 11.
The band's line-up today consists of van Leer on vocals, piano and flute, who is joined once again by percussionist Pierre van der Linden and Menno Gootjes on guitar, as well as Udo Pannekeet playing bass.
Hocus Pocus was featured in a short Nike advertisement aired just prior to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and their music has also been used in UK TV shows, notably Top Gear and Saxondale.
Tickets cost £20.25 inclusive of a booking fee. Poster printing can be a useful way of promoting a forthcoming tour or musical event.
The Focus 50th Anniversary gig has a starting time of 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 25 at The Earl Haig Club, Cardiff.
