The American Soul band Shalamar is currently on its 'Greatest Hits Tour', and is due to play Cardiff at the beginning of June.
Originally formed by Solar Records founder, Dick Griffey. The classic trio of Jeffrey Daniel, Jody Watley and Howard Hewett dates from 1979, replacing earlier incarnations. Their peak years spanned 1979 to 1983 when they achieved around a dozen chart hits worldwide.
Shalamar's appearance on 'Top of the Pops' in 1982 saw Jeffrey Daniel introduce the 'Moonwalk' to a British audience. With 11 singles in the UK Top 40, four of which were Top 10 hits, and more than 25 million in global record sales, ranking them amongst Soul's most successful artists ever.
The band effectively broke up in 1983 only to reform in 1999. Hewett and Daniel are now joined by Dick Griffey's daughter Carolyn, backed by a seven-piece band. They deliver such popular songs as 'A Night To Remember', 'Disappearing Act', 'Friends' and 'Dead Giveaway'.
The special guest on this occasion is Gwen Dickey, lead singer of R&B group Rose Royce from the 70s.
Tickets range in price from £29.50 to £47.50. Print shops can offer a selection of useful services to those involved in the promotion of a concert or musical event.
Shalamar's show has a starting time of 7.30 pm on Thursday 6th June at New Theatre, Cardiff.
