Cardiff prepares to sample some folk rock

The American singer/songwriting duo Indigo Girls are due to perform in Cardiff towards the end of August, along with support from Yasmin Williams.

Indigo Girls consists of Amy Ray and Emily Sailers, who began playing as a combo in the mid-1980s whilst still at high school in Decatur, Georgia. The Indigo Girls' name was adopted when the pair attended Emory University, where they regularly appeared at 'The Dugout' in Emory Village.

Their first album was self-produced and came out in 1987, signing up with a big record company the following year. On the back of a revival of interest in folk music, they released nine albums on a series of labels between 1987 and 2007.

The Grammy award-winning duo have sold over 15 million records, and yet managed to do so without disillusioning their underground fan base. They subsequently set up IG Recordings, and are once again self-producing albums.

Amy has also been engaged in solo projects and is the founder of a non-profit body involved in publicising freelance musicians, whilst Emily is a restaurant entrepreneur and author. Both are active in support of a host of environmental and political causes.

Tickets for the gig cost £32. Print shops are a useful resource when it comes to the promotion of a concert or musical event.

The Indigo Girls gig has a starting time of 7.00pm on Saturday, August 19, at Tramshed, Cardiff.
