Cardiff Music Board set for inaugural meeting

Plans for the initial meeting of the Cardiff Music Board are being finalised.

The Cardiff Music Board aims to promote the music industry in the capital of Wales. At the first meeting of the board, 22 individuals will come together. The event will take place during December. Councillor Huw Thomas said:

“Our ambition is to transform Cardiff into the first UK city where music is incorporated into its structure - that means everything from planning and licensing to social well-being and tourism.”

Councillor Thomas explained that the city contains many music fans. In addition, he observed that there is an abundance of Cardiff-based singers, musicians, sound engineers, artists and producers. As a result, recruitment to the board has not been an awkward process. Flyer printing can be used to promote events taking place in the community.

A star of BBC Radio Wales, DJ Bethan Elfyn, is one of the appointments to the board. She has been a participant in Cardiff’s creative industries since the 1990s. Her experience includes activities like broadcasting and promoting. Her work has provided her with insights into the evolution of Cardiff’s culture.

Other members of the board include a maker of podcasts and an academic. Daniel Minty has produced a gig guide, while Lucy Squire is currently the Head of Music at the University of South Wales. Squire has been involved with the development of the Catapult Records Label.
