Cardiff Met gets strong performance report

Cardiff Metropolitan University scored pass marks all the way recently, as the quality of teaching and opportunities for student learning were both declared up to standard.

The report was carried out by the Quality Assurance Agency, which serves as the watchdog organisation for higher education in the UK, and the results will delight the university as it seeks to move on from the speculation surrounding a possible merger with the universities in Newport and Glamorgan.

The vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Antony Chapman, stated recently that this uncertainty had worked against it, making the positive QAA verdict all the more welcome.

Particular areas highlighted by the QAA included development opportunities for teaching staff and the collaborative work undertaken by the student union at Cardiff with those at other universities, with both cited as being ‘good practice’.

It also stated that students had praised the professionalism and knowledge of teaching staff and the standard of software, equipment, work spaces and learning resources offered at the university.

When it comes to these areas, the university has the benefit of being able to call on the help of local businesses, such as Print companies in Cardiff that can supply the necessary educational Stationery printing.

Jacqui Hare, the deputy vice-chancellor, said everyone at the university was delighted at receiving such a good report, but the QAA did recommend some adjustments to postgraduate training and complaints procedures at Cardiff Met.
