American singer/songwriter Willy Mason is on tour and due to play a gig in Cardiff in mid-September.
Born in Tarrytown, New York, he grew up in Massachusetts, listening to his parents’ folk music as well as bands such as Nirvana. This induced him to combine the much softer tones and freer delivery of folk with the more aggressive approach of grunge.
Mason first emerged on the indie music scene aged 19 in 2005 with his debut album, ‘Where the Humans Eat’. It was released to positive critical reviews, charting at No. 30 in the UK. There were then appearances at festivals including Glastonbury, along with tours with names like Rosanne Cash, Radiohead, Beth Orton and My Morning Jacket.
This led to an expanding fan base that encouraged the Astralwerks record label to acquire his initial material. ‘Already Dead’, Mason's fourth studio album, was released last year and examines a series of set themes, including honesty, freedom, anonymity, love and deception. It is the artist's first attempt at a record written and produced at his home, and includes the single ‘Take It Off’.
Tickets cost £15 but may be subject to a booking fee. Flyer printing is an effective way of publicising a forthcoming concert or musical event.
The gig has a starting time of 7:00 pm on Sunday, September 11 at Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff.
