What has been described as one of the finest races in the UK, the Cardiff 10k has recently undergone some significant changes.
Organisers have decided to reconfigure the course of the event, which is currently in its 29th year.
According to Wales Online, the run will now take place between Museum Avenue, Roath Park Lake, Ty Draw Road, Ninian Road, and then back again. Course Director Graham Finlayson believes this will be a challenge for the runners, as the route is one that has never been undertaken before.
Finlayson explained that it is a break from tradition, but the course needed to be reconfigured due to certain other events taking place in the area. The decision was made due to the city hosting the NATO summit.
Roy J. Thomas expressed his desire for the race to always be part of the UK calendar, and even though the route has changed, it is still a great course that will challenge the runners.
Bernie Plain, a runner who was part of the very first race, still remembers the day well, and 29 years later he believes the importance of the race and determination of the organisers are still going strong.
