Animation festival to return to Cardiff

After several years of exile, a popular event is set to return to Cardiff next month as the city will once again host the Animation Festival.

The event will be running across four days and its programme will feature a number of animated films. Among the most exciting items on the schedule is a sneak preview of The Breadwinner, which was nominated for an Oscar.

Overall, there will be almost 100 animated shorts competing for prizes at the festival, which will be held at a variety of venues in the city. Nearly 500 films were put forward to take part in the event, with a panel of judges selecting 99 to be screened during the festival. The main base for it will be the cinema and arts centre, Chapter.

Films from all over the globe will be shown at the festival, and will be divided into six different categories. Major studios like Aardman are among those showcasing at the event. Speaking to Animation World Network, Joanna Quinn, a director, stated that:

“The thought of four days of animated films, presentations and meeting new friends is almost too much to bear. I wish I had an animation advent calendar to count down the days!”

This festival will take place between the 19th and 22nd April this year. Many events have the option of brochure printing to showcase their programme to interested parties.
