Around 2,500 people got involved in the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, which was held earlier this month. A celebrity from the area, television actor Patrick Robinson, also took part and made a speech at the beginning of the walk.
One of his relatives has suffered from dementia and he explained how this had influenced his outlook:
“I've had a great day out and it was especially moving to see all the people who have come along today to walk for loved ones.
“Dementia is something which touches so many of us in one way or another so it's good to be able to do support the Alzheimer's Society, and their vital work for people with the condition.”
The event has not just raised awareness, though. It is thought that around £100,000 was donated as a result of the walk. This money should be of assistance to many of those who sufferer with the condition, as well as the people who care for them.
The Alzheimer’s Society worked closely with Bupa Care Services, which helped to organise the day. Around 45,000 people are currently suffering from dementia within Wales, and charitable organisations often use poster printing in Cardiff to raise awareness of the assistance that is needed.
Although the event was serious in many ways, the participants still had plenty of fun. The walkers listened to music and had refreshments at the end of their exertions, while there were bubbles and face-painting to add to the entertainment.
