The veteran pop/rock band Sweet is currently on a tour and due to play a gig in Cardiff at the beginning of April.
At the centre of this story is singer-songwriter and founding member Andy Scott, the constant thread that runs through the group across five decades.
Sweet had a host of UK top ten hits in the early 70s with songs such as 'Blockbuster', 'Ballroom Blitz' and Teenage Rampage'. This was followed up by success in America in 1975 with the single 'Fox on the Run' which reached no. three on the Billboard chart.
Mainly known for their singles, they also had a series of successful albums, 'Desolation Boulevard' (1975) and 'Give Us a Wink'(1976). The LP 'Level Headed'(1978) produced the million-seller hit 'Love is Like Oxygen'.
Lead vocalist Brian Connolly left in 1979 and both he and Mick Tucker, subsequently died. There have been several line-ups since, but the band has remained essentially the same since 2006.
This consists of lead guitar, Andy Scott, lead vocalist/bass, Tony O'Hora, guitar/keyboards, Paul Menzi and Bruce Bisland on drums.
