Walthamstow festival voted among worlds most eco-friendly

An annual festival based in Walthamstow has achieved international acclaim for its green-minded approach.

The Walthamstow Garden Party has received a Green Festival Award along with 37 other recipients. Joint produced by Waltham Forest Council and the Barbican, the free-entry festival was applauded for its eco-friendly ethics at an award ceremony hosted by A Greener Festival. A not-for-profit organisation, A Greener Festival is committed to assisting events across the world in operating with more sustainable methods.

Held in Lloyd Park on Forest Road in Walthamstow, the major London event sees a crowd of 30,000 people in attendance. Promoters of both national and international festivals can sometimes benefit from poster printing services to fashion attractive materials to advertise upcoming events.

Last year, the festival employed a system featuring reusable drinking cups. Visitors to the Garden Party paid a deposit for a cup to use for the duration of the festival and received that deposit back when the cup was returned. The innovative scheme stopped close to 27,000 cups for single-use from ending up in landfills or requiring recycling. Food for the festival was also locally sourced with over half the purveyors offering vegan and vegetarian cuisine.

The Walthamstow Garden Party was first held in 2014 and it is now into its seventh year, with the next edition arriving in July.
