Tower block for Walthamstow gets go ahead

A 21-storey tower block is due to start construction after a unanimous vote by Waltham Forest Council.

Now it has been approved, building should commence in March with the project continuing on to June 2020. Forest Road, the present location of Blackhorse Lane car park in Walthamstow is the proposed site of the block which will provide 350 homes.

Half of these apartments will be designated affordable housing with a 60-40% division of shared ownership and affordable housing. Out of the homes, 43 will be assigned to occupants who require wheelchair access.

The new development was designed by Barratt Homes, who will also manage the block. The ground level of the building will house space for businesses. Companies opening new branches in districts like Walthamstow often use Business Cards to introduce their agents to the commercial community.

Barratt Homes stated that Blackhorse Road car park would be a loss for the community with the assistance of Transport for London. A thorough surveying of those who work and live near the site was carried out by Barratt Homes with the results showing 83% in favour of the development.

In a progressive step that supports environmental issues in Walthamstow, the site will be, to a large extent, free of cars. Instead, over 663 bicycle bays will be provided for cyclists.
