East London location becomes mass vaccine site

A mass COVID-19 vaccine site has been announced in East London’s Walthamstow.

At a recent meeting of Waltham Forest’s Council’s committee for health scrutiny, Walthamstow Library was nominated as a new site for rolling out the vaccine programme.

Part of the Waltham Forest Libraries group, whose Logo Design features a geometric design, the glass-fronted library is based on the High Street. The council-run building will join the Chingford Leisure Centre as the two latest vaccination sites for the area.

Sue Boon of Waltham Forest’s clinical commissioning group (CCG), addressed the committee:

“Chingford Leisure Centre will open as a large-scale site later on in March. We have also got Plans to open a site at Walthamstow Library and are working very closely with our colleagues in the council.”

While Chingford Leisure Centre will focus on issuing the first jabs of the vaccine, Walthamstow Library and other sites will begin offering the second doses to members of the public.

Further measures are being planned around the borough for patients seeking vaccinations but who are unable to attend the dedicated sites. Pop-up vaccine centres are being organised and Plans to hold vaccination clinics at local health practices are also under consideration.

Recent reports issued by the NHS indicate that over 37,500 residents of Waltham Forest have already received their initial vaccine jab.
