A new history of Walthamstow book is published

The publication of ‘A People’s History of Walthamstow’ recently took place.

A People’s History of Walthamstow was put together by local writer James Diamond, who used photographs and stories to produce his book. The reliance on primary sources gives A People’s History of Walthamstow a lively and authentic character.

The hope is that readers of the book will be interested in the work and struggles of local residents. It may be the case that people will be intrigued by a diversity of perspectives from the past. Several of the characters featured in the text appear to have played quite a significant role in shaping the largest district in the borough of Waltham Forest.

Diamond gained a lot of writing experience by working as a journalist. He worked for the Daily Mirror and The Observer, prior to becoming a government press officer. His academic expertise will have assisted him in his historical work. He has a postgraduate qualification in social and economic history, while his first degree focused on cultural studies and history.

There are several reasons why Walthamstow is famous. The thinker William Morris came from the area. East 17, once a really popular boyband, originated in the town. The presence of a greyhound racing track also helped to put the district on the map.
