The Pole Hill animal farm has needed work
from volunteers to keep it going. Located close to Hayes, people have come from Ruislip and elsewhere to lend a hand. In the future, leaflets from leaflet printers in Hayes could be required to promote what has sometimes been known as Pets’ Corner. Sue Kitt, a local volunteer, said:
“I thought if the feelings are that strong and people are that passionate about it, then you've got to do something about it, so we've created a proper committee, to hopefully keep going for the long term.”
The farm has catered for the wants of several generations and is now being given fresh life. Vandalism to an enclosure for peacocks has been addressed. Experienced volunteer Stan Atkins has received plenty of skilled help. Facebook has been used as an organising tool.
The aim now is to obtain charitable status for the group working on the farm. Ms Kitt has explained that there is a real mix of citizens involved in the project. She aspires to tempting a local councillor to get behind the community initiative. Individuals who have fond memories of the amenity from their childhoods may be particularly likely to assist in the running of the farm.
